Dear Partners,

Menstruation and menstrual management are issues that are hardly discussed among adults and adolescents in Ghana due to varied socio-cultural beliefs, perceptions and practices regarding this natural phenomenon. Over the years, Society for Empowerment and Social Justice has been working on different programs to improve young people access to youth friendly services including menstrual health and education in the Upper East Region.

Report on WEP by Society for Empowerment and Social Justice

Inequalities between sexes have grown at an alarming rate over the past few decades, paralleling the rise in the gap between rich and poor. Despite their strength in numbers and their potential, women are largely excluded from formal and informal educational and empowerment processes and continue to be subject to gender-based systems of authority.

The women Empowerment Project (WEP) is aimed to bridge the educational gab between men and women in the three Northern Region of Ghana (Upper East; Upper West; and Northern Region). The project, which is in two categories (Health and Education), focusses on both formally and informally training the young women to be self reliant in society.
